Aim and background: due to the many applications of x-rays in medicine and industry, radiation protection has become one of the most important issues in the world.methods: in this research, 12 wt.% polyvinyl alcohol (pva) nanofibers filled with tungsten oxide nanoparticles with a concentration of (10-35) wt.% were produced by electrospinning method. thickness, linear attenuation coefficient and half value layer of electrospun samples were investigated. the dispersion of nanoparticles in pva nanofiber and the surface morphology of nanofibers were investigated using a scanning electron microscope. in order to determine the x-ray attenuation of the samples, the x-rf unit was used at different voltages (20.3-35 kv). results and discussion: the linear attenuation coefficient of the electrospun samples was compared with the results obtained from xcom prediction and it was shown that all the samples had a better linear attenuation coefficient than the xcom results. also, the sample with 30%wt. filler had the highest linear attenuation coefficient and lowest half value layer.conclusion: using the electrospinning method, it is possible to produce polymer coatings that provide good protection against gamma rays
