Aim and background: magnetic hyperthermia is a new method by injecting nanoparticle-based systems into cancer tissue, destroying cancer cells by vibration under the magnetic field and heat. in order to prevent agglomeration and oxidation, minimize toxicity, non-recognition and rapid removal by the reticuloendothelial system, coating these nanoparticles with molecules such as hydrophobic polymers, proteins, lipids and polysaccharides is an excellent way to reduce the sensitive surface of magnetic nps. in this work, we developed fe3o4@sio2 nanoparticles with sericin protein as a coating of magnetic nanoparticles. sericin has attracted attention due to its amphiphilic properties, biocompatibility, low toxicity, good solubility in water, ph-sensitive properties, and reverse charge properties. a combination of magnetic hyperthermia (mht) and chemotherapy was also examined in our study. methods: our synthesized nanoparticles, mnp-sericin (mnp-sc), were synthesized by co-precipitation method and confirmed using sem, dls, vsm, ftir, and xrd of mnp. results and discussion: our results demonstrated that due to the presence of magnetic cores in this protein based-nanostructure, they could be separated by the magnetic field, easily. the cytocompatibility of the synthesized mnp-sc was approved by assessing the survival rate of mcf 10a cells using mtt assay. conclusion: in nutshell, the synthesized mnp-sc in combination with chemotherapy and hyperthermia showed synergic cancer treatment processes.
