Aim and background: phytosomes are a novel technology used in herbal drug delivery that enhances the bioavailability and efficacy of phytoconstituents. they are formed by the complexation of a phytoconstituent with a phospholipid, resulting in the formation of a lipid bilayer around them. this process makes it easier for body to absorb them by increasing their solubility. phytosomes have been extensively studied for their ability to improve the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of herbal drugs. they have been found to increase the absorption, distribution, and bioavailability of herbal drugs as well as improve their therapeutic efficacy; and also, phytosomes reduce the toxicity of some herbal drugs. the ability to target specific tissues and cells in the body is one of the main advantages of phytosomes. for this reason, phospholipids are natural components of cell membranes, and therefore, phytosomes can easily penetrate cell membranes and deliver their active ingredients directly to the target cells. phytosomes have been used in the treatment of various diseases, including liver disorders, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer. they have also been used in cosmetic formulations for skin rejuvenation and anti-aging purposes.conclusion: phytosomes are a promising technology in herbal drug delivery that can enhance the efficacy and bioavailability of herbal drugs. their ability to target specific tissues and cells in the body makes them an attractive option for the treatment of various diseases. however, further research is needed to fully understand their mechanisms of action and potential applications.
