Aim and background: in recent decades, metal-organic frameworks (mof) have attracted a lot of attention in various fields, especially drug delivery, due to their unique characteristics such as high porosity, structural strength and etc. in this research, a biocompatible metal-organic framework based on sulfonamide was synthesized and a natural polysaccharide (pa) was used as a template and targeting agent. finally the obtained structure was used as a carrier for the targeted delivery of an anticancer drug, 5-fluorouracil.methods: the polysaccharide solution was added to the sulfonamide solution and after the complete dissolution, the metal ion solution was added. after 18 hours of stirring at room temperature, the final product was obtained, the attained product was dried after purification via successive washing with water and centrifugation. the final product was named pa/5-fu@mof. results and discussion: some characterization techniques such as scanning electron microscope (sem) and x-ray diffraction (xrd) were used. sem results indicate that the morphology and size of particles in the presence of drug and polysaccharide are different from the synthesis in the presence of polysaccharide alone, which can prove the presence of drug in these samples. the xrd showed the crystallinity of the product.conclusion: in this study, a novel biomof was synthesized by biomineralization method for the encapsulation of 5-fu drug in one step at room temperature. polysaccharide was used to enhance the biocompatibility and as targeting agent
