Aim and background: beta-sitosterol (bs) is a type of plant steroid found in various plants. bs has many properties, such as anti-inflammatory and wound healing. but its physicochemical characteristics, including its high lipophilicity, are one of the obstacles to bringing this compound to its place of effect. in this study, a nanofiber film based on the proline-hydroxyproline derivative (phpc) was prepared to increase the efficiency of beta-sitosterol. methods: for producing nanofibers, a phpc polymer was synthesized. then chitosan (cs) and phpc formulations were made, and bs was added to these two formulations. physicochemical tests were performed. results and discussion: the results of the physicochemical tests of this formulation confirmed its compatibility with human skin. also, due to the lipophilic nature of bs, its release from phpc film was faster than from chitosan film. but the release profiles observed in both films were similar, including an initial rapid release phase and a controlled release phase. conclusion: this study showed that the phpc film compared to the cs film better properties in terms of mucoadhesive properties and strength. so phpc film can be introduced as a suitable pharmaceutical form for the topical administration of bs.
