چکیده    Steel companies around the world, and especially in europe, are increasingly facing a decarbonization challenge. but the topic cannot be limited to dedicated regions, rather is valid for all steel producing countries. consequently, also the iranian steel industry has to face the issue and to see the de-carbonization challenge as an opportunity rather than a threat. specifically, as the iranian steel industry is already advanced in this respect as predominantly the production is based on the dri – eaf production route. the subject paper is dealing with basic considerations on the topic decarbonization, but also with the optimization of the process in the steel industry and is also looking in to the complete production chain to identify co2 reduction measures from the melting to the casting and rolling processes. beside the primary steel making process, which is contributing mainly to the carbon emissions also small but dedicated actions can be taken and effectively implemented.
