امروزه با افزایش جمعیت، رشد اقتصادی جامعه و افزایش سفرهای شهری و همچنین افزایش مالکیت اتومبیل با مشکلات ترافیکی بیشتری به ویژه در شهرهای بزرگ روبه رو هستیم. حمل و نقل درون شهری یا ترافیک شهری که مبتنی بر سازماندهی وضعیت عبور و مرور وسایل نقلیه در بخش های مختلف مانند بزرگراه ها، میدان ها، تقاطع ها و غیره می باشد از جمله مباحث همواره به روز است و متخصصان فن همواره در حال مطالعه و بهبود ترافیک می باشد.کنترل کننده های ترافیک با استفاده از اطلاعات بدست آورده تنطیمات زمانی برای چراغ های راهنمای و رانندگی و یا حذف سیگنالها و فازهای مراحل مختلف آنها در صورتیکه هیچ وسیله نقلیه ای در سطح معابر نیست برای کاهش ترافیک استفاده می نماید.به طور کلی کنترل کننده ها با هدف کاهش تاخیرها ،افزایش ایمنی ،مدیریت لحظه ای ترافیک، هماهنگی بین سازمان های مربوطه ،شناسایی نقاط حادثه خیز، مدیریت بحران ایجاد می شوند.سیستم های کنترل ترافیک نیز در تمام شهرهای دنیا به کار می رود که تاثیر جریانات ترافیکی را بهبود دهد ، تعداد دفعات عبور و مرور را کاهش دهد و از محیط اطراف ، از طریق کم کردن مصرف سوخت ، استفاده کند. در نهایت باید به این نکته توجه داشته باشیم که مدیریت و کنترل ترافیک از مهمترین مسایلی است که حتما باید به آن توجه شود، چون مشکل ترافیک تقاطع ها در شهرها علاوه بر آنکه سبب از بین رفتن سرمایه ها می شود، به علت سرعت حرکت بالای خودروها در برخی راه ها، در صورت برخورد وسایل نقلیه به یکدیگر فجایعی بوجود خواهد آمد که جان انسان ها را نیز تهدید می کند.هدف از این تحقیق بررسی تاثیر کنترل کننده های تقاطع در آرام سازی ترافیک شهری در فلکه 17 شهریور شهر آمل است. نتایج حاصله از تحقیق بیانگر آن است که برنامه ریزی صحیح در قرارگیری کنترل کننده ها در تقاطع های شهری باعث کاهش تصادفات و صرفه جویی در وقت و کاهش ترافیک خواهد شد. از نظر محدوده زمانی این تحقیق در بین سالهای 1402-1401 انجام می گیرد و از نظر محدوده مکانی نیز، این تحقیق در شهر آمل می باشد.
