Electron microscopy of materials undergoing chemical reactions providesknowledge of the underlying mechanisms. however, the reactions are often complexand cannot be fully resolved using a single method. as well as characterization of thestructural properties of two-dimensional (2d) materials is very important to optimizetheir synthesis and application. here, we present the electron microscopy method usingfield emission scanning electron microscopy (fe-sem) and transmission electronmicroscopy (tem) for studying the exfoliation of synthesized boron nitride nanosheets.collectively, our data reveal that the reaction proceeds via a three-step process whichleads to a significant reduction in the dimensions and thickness of the as-obtainednanosheets compared to pristine hbn
