چکیده گستردگی سیستم‌ها به اندازه دنیایی است که در آن قرار دارند. سیستم‌ها در حقیقت اجتماع یا ترکیبی از عناصر یا اجزای مرتبط با هم است که تشکیل‌دهنده یک کل واحد بوده و دارای هدف مشترکی می‌باشند. لازم به ذکر است که سیستم‌ها می‌توانند به بزرگی کل هستی یا کوچکی یک اتم باشند. هدایت فرآیند مهندسی در سیستم‌ها موجب ایجاد یک رویکرد بین رشته‌ای به نام مهندسی سیستم شده است. ‌مفهوم‌ هدایت ‌در‌ قدم ‌نخست ‌به ‌معنای ‌انتخاب‌ بهترین‌ مسیر‌ از‌ میان ‌مسیرهای ‌موجود ‌و ‌سپس ‌راهبری، ‌جهت‌دهی ‌و‌ مدیریت ‌فرآیند ‌در ‌مسیر ‌انتخابی ‌است. در این زمینه مدیریت الزامات به عنوان یکی از مراحل اولیه از فرآیند توسعه محصول است که می‌تواند با یک نگاه جامع و دقیق الزامات را مهندسی نموده و موجب تولید محصولی شود که نیازهای کاربران را برآورده سازد. سیستم‌های دریایی نیز همانند سایر سیستم‌ها و به تبع انجام عملیات در زیر آب دارای اهمیت ویژه‌ای در زمینه موارد ایمنی است. از این‌رو سنجش شرایط عملیات و ارزیابی الزامات و تعیین امکان‌سنجی‌های لازم جهت برآورده سازی آن‌ها در ابتدای پروژه امری لازم و غیرقابل انکار است که نیازمند تلاش در جهت مهندسی سیستم و ایجاد رویکردی یکپارچه در زمینه جهت‌دهی فعالیت‌ها خواهد بود.
