چکیده    First records on rotaviruses date back to 1950s and 1960s, when virus particles resembling 15 reoviruses were identified in the intestinal tissue of mice and rectal swab of captive monkeys by 16 using electron microscopy. rotavirus is a genus of double-stranded rna viruses in the family reoviridae. there are nine species of the genus, referred to as a, b, c, d, f, g, h, i and j. the virus is transmitted by the fecal–oral route. it infects and damages the cells that line the small intestine and causes gastroenteritis. the virus is rarely symptomatic in dogs, but puppies may experience mild diarrhea and occasionally other symptoms as well. rotaviruses are generally species-specific, but cross-species transmission is possible. there may be a continual input of rotavirus strains or sequences into the human population from the animal population albeit at a very low level. group a rotavirus is the main cause of acute dehydrating diarrhea in humans and numerous animal species. rva shows vast diversity and a variety of human strains share genetic and antigenic features with animal origin rva strains. this finding suggests that interspecies transmission is an important mechanism of rotavirus evolution and contributes to the diversity of human rva strains .several case studies have indicated infection of humans by direct contact with household pets. rotavirus has the potential to be zoonotic. children, even those who are vaccinated, may get infected and sick from rotavirus more than once. in addition, it is currently unpredictable how the available hrv vaccines will perform against this wide variety of unusual animal rv strains infecting humans. good hygiene is important but not enough to control the spread of the disease.
