چکیده    Artificial intelligence (ai) is rapidly transforming veterinary medicine, particularly in medical imaging. the integration of ai, especially machine learning (ml) and deep learning (dl), with ultrasound (us) technology, offers promising advancements in diagnostic accuracy and efficiency. the nature of ultrasound imaging-often dependent on the operator s skill-makes it an ideal candidate for ai enhancement, as ai excels in recognizing complex patterns and providing quantitative assessments. recent research highlights the growing application of ai in analyzing ultrasound images, particularly in companion animals. the process typically involves a radiomics workflow, where regions of interest, such as the small intestine in a feline ultrasound, are identified, and image features like texture and pixel intensity are computed. these features, when combined with biomarkers, can feed into ml models to enhance diagnostic precision. for instance, binary classifiers can predict outcomes with greater accuracy, potentially improving treatment plans and animal care.it has been indicated that there is a technology termed point-of-care ultrasound (pocus) imaging, procedures can now be performed without the need for a patient to be physically present in radiology department. this allows for rapid bedside tests, especially in emergency medicine or ambulatory settings where a formal radiological investigation would inevitably delay any diagnosis. pocus technologies are impacting not only resource-rich settings but also resource-limited global health care. however, ai is not a replacement for veterinarians. instead, it acts as a tool to augment their capabilities. ai-driven analysis in veterinary ultrasound can lead to more consistent and objective assessments, potentially revolutionizing how disorders are diagnosed and managed in animals. the challenge for veterinarians will be to understand and implement these ai technologies effectively. the fear that ai could replace veterinarians is unfounded. rather, as noted in human medicine, practitioners who incorporate ai into their practice may outpace those who do not. ultimately, the future of ai in veterinary ultrasound looks bright, promising significant enhancements in the quality of life for animals and those who care for them.
