prevalence of dermatophytosis in dogs of khomam city of guilan province

Dermatophytosis is one of the most common skin disorders, known as a zoonotic disease. and it can be transmitted from animals to humans. also, the humidity of guilan province increases the prevalence of this disease. this study aims to discuss the prevalence of dermatophytosis in dogs of khomam city in guilan province.a total of 122 dogs were referred to mahsa veterinary clinic in khomam city for six months. these dogs had clinical signs of dermatophytosis including hair loss, dandruff, and peeling. and the samples from these dogs were collected. the results of the study with the usage of wood lamp, microscope, and dermatophyte culture were almost similar with each other, the rate of dermatophyte was reported as 19%. the highest percentage of infection among dermatophyte-causing factors was related to microsporum canis with 73.6%. also, the rate of infection in dogs above 2 years old was 2 times more than in dogs below this age. however, there was no statistical significance between gender, age, and breed of the dogs.according to the results of the study the high prevalence of this skin disorder in dogs and the importance of the zoonotic aspect of the disease it is recommended that vets and dog owners consider the health safety parameters during examination.
