applications of machine learning in the management of neglected tropical diseases: a systematic review

The confusable nature of neglected tropical diseases and the complications of diagnosing and managing these diseases creates a burden on healthcare providers in low-to-middle-income countries. considering the expansion of the use of artificial intelligence in health care, this study aims to explore the application of machine learning in the management of neglected tropical diseases. the main bibliographic databases pubmed, scopus, web of science, and google scholar search engine were searched in 2024 to retrieve articles without time limit. the searches yielded 343 articles. by the prisma checklist, we selected 11 articles for this review. a review of the included studies showed that there were five studies (45.4%) in the field of identifying and diagnosing diseases, four studies (36.3%) in the field of design and discovery of drugs, and two studies (18.1%) were conducted to the prediction of the distribution of disease. machine learning is one of the methods of artificial intelligence that has an effective role in the management of neglected tropical diseases. also, machine learning helps in the accurate and early diagnosis of these diseases by healthcare providers.
