This paper present experimental investigation of compression behavior of lightweight corrugated core composite (ccc) sandwich panel and corrugated core smart composites (ccsc) sandwich panel subjected to quasi-static edgewise compression loading. sandwich structures consisting of facesheets and core. presence of shape memory alloy (sma) wire and their pre-strain percentages are the parameters studied in this investigation. the core geometry of specimens is trapezoid corrugated core manufactured by aluminum grade 3105 series. the facesheets of specimens have four layers of woven glass fibers reinforced epoxy composite. for evaluation the effect of presence of sma wires on mechanical specifications of sandwich panel, three sma wires without percentages (0%) are embedded in each composite facesheets of specimens. maximum force of ccc and ccsc sandwich panels were evaluated. results showed that ccc sandwich panel has higher maximum force than ccsc sandwich panels with 0 % pre-strain. so, approach of using 0% pre-strain sma wires in ccc sandwich panel is not recommended.
