Abstract
digital currencies have entered financial transactions in the form of electronic money, and now “cbdcs or cryptocurrencies” are trying to enter financial transactions. a number of countries have adopted explicit approaches to currencies and have regulated virtual currencies. however, the iranian government does not have a clear approach, and the lack of transparency affects the waste of national capital. the present study is library-based and derived from legal sources, and has examined the approach of our country’s legal system in the legitimacy of various types of virtual currencies, whether virtual currencies are assets or money. national virtual currencies, due to their government support and being based on bank accounts, have the function of money and are common in retail sales. the central bank of the islamic republic of iran, by updating the previous rules and regulations in the monetary system, has the authority to supervise national currencies. it can also require credit institutions, especially centralized and decentralized exchanges, to verify the identity of clients and supervise cryptocurrencies. however, the acceptance of foreign digital currencies, including the yuan and the bitcoin cryptocurrency, will conflict with the national sovereignty of governments, and the production of an international cryptocurrency and having a specific token foundation is essential to maintaining the national sovereignty of countries, including the iranian government.
