اعتباریت ماهیت از دیدگاه علامه طباطبایی

مقصود از ماهیت در مبحث اصالت وجود، حقیقتی است که در پاسخ از چیستی شیء بیان می‌شود. همچنین یکی از معانی اعتباریت، امری است که اولاً و بالذات منشا آثار شیء خارجی نیست. علامه طباطبایی از این ماهیت اعتباری به عنوان حد وجود یاد کرده است. این سخن به دو گونه قابل تفسیراست: الف) ماهیت صرفاً مفهومی است که از حد وجود در بستر کارکرد ذهن انتزاع می‌شود؛ ب) ماهیت همان حد وجودی‌ای است که شیء در بستر فقدان کمالات وجودی دارای آن شده است. تفسیر دوم مورد پسند علامه طباطبایی است؛ زیرا ایشان مفاهیم ماهوی را بازتاب مستقیم و تحقق مفهومی و وجود ذهنی حقایقی می‌داند که در خارج تحقق دارند و از سوی دیگر معتقد است که اتصاف در هر ظرفی باشد، دو طرف اتصاف نیز در همان ظرف، تحقق دارند. بر این اساس مراد از حد بودن ماهیت برای وجود، معنای دوم است.
