انسانی که از استدلال برای شناخت حقیقت استفاده می‌کند، باید برای تصدیق و پذیرش مفاد هر استدلالی، ابتدا طرفین و اجزای آن را به‌صورت صحیح تصور کند. شهود قلبی ازجمله اموری است که در رسیدن فاعل شناسا به تصور صحیح موثر است. عقلِ تصورکننده مسئله با شهود قلبی چه ارتباطی دارد؟ شهود قلبی چه ویژگی‌ای دارد که چنین قابلیتی در عقل ایجاد می‌کند؟ ابتدا می‌بایست به تبیین اهمیت و جایگاه تصویر صحیح از مسئله بپردازیم و اشاره کنیم که عقل نسبت به فهم واقعیت دارای مراتب است و این شهود قلبی است که مرتبه عقل را ارتقا می‌دهد و آن را منور به نور کشف می‌کند. آنگاه عقل به‌تبعِ ادراک قلبی، که نوعی علم حضوری است، تصویر صحیحی از واقعیت به دست می‌آورد. نکته اصلی این دستاورد شهود قلبی را باید در حضوری بودن آن دانست، که البته با تصویری که علم حصولی صِرف از مسئله می‌دهد، بسیار متفاوت است. به عبارتی دیگر، شهود چشم و گوش فیلسوف را تیز کرده، توجه او را به نقاطی از مسئله جلب می‌کند که تا حال مغفول بوده است.
