بررسی اژدهاگونگی اسفندیار با رویکردی تطبیقی

در این نوشتار به شیوۀ نقد اسطوره شناختی و با رویکرد تطبیقی میان حماسۀ ایرانی و هندی، شخصیت اسفندیار در شاهنامه با شخصیت ورترا در حماسۀ هندی سنجیده شده و انگاره ای دیگر دربارۀ ژرف ساخت نبرد او با رستم، پیشنهاد شده و برای نخستین بار نشان داده شده است که اسفندیار در نبرد با رستم، بسیاری از ویژگی های اژدهای ورترا را بازتاب می دهد و از این دید با اژدها بسیار همانند است. بر پایۀ این بررسی، داستان نبرد اسفندیار با رستم، گونه ای نو و دیگرگون شده از داستان نبرد ورترا، اژدهای خشکسالی، با ایندرا در اسطورۀ هندی است. پیوند اسفندیار با بنیان های دینی برآمده از دستکاری های هنرورزانۀ داستان پردازان یا دین پرستان در دوره های سپسین است که زمینۀ دور شدن شخصیت اسفندیار را از تبار اژدهایی خود و نزدیک شدن به چهرهای دینی و پهلوانی فراهم می کند. اسفندیار در رویین تنی، کشته شدن با تیر، زخم پذیری از یک نقطۀ ویژه و برخی دیگر از ویژگی ها، یکسره به اژدهای خشکسالی اسطورۀ هندی می ماند. آنچه انگیزۀ پایفشاری اسفندیار را بر بستن دستان تهمتن پدید می آورد، برآمده از آرمانی اهریمنی است که بخشی بنیادین از ساختار داستان نبرد ورترا را با ایندرا بازتاب می دهد.

a comparative approach to esfandīār’s dragonish characteristics

the present paper draws on mythological criticism to comparatively approach persian and indian epics in analyzing esfandiar’s character in shahnameh as well as vritra in indian epic. more specifically, the paper proposes that esfandiar’s battle with rostam reflects many dragonish elements of vritra in indian mythology, a perspective quite different from what is commonly considered about esfandīār’s battle with rostam. the findings suggest that the account of esfandīār’s battle with rostam is a transformed version of the account of the battle of vritra, the drought dragon, with indira in indian mythology. esfandyar’s connection with religious foundations, which is due to the artistic manipulations of storytellers or theologians in later periods, causes esfandīār’s character to move away from his dragon pedigree and, instead, get closer to religious and heroic figures. esfandīār in his invincibility, his death caused with an arrow shot at a vulnerable spot and other characteristics are unmistakeably similar to those of the drought dragon of indian mythology. that which makes esfandīār insist on tying rostam’s hands in a demonic dream also reflects an important structural part of vritra’s battle with indira.
