Nano-sized materials due to their mesoscopic effect, small object effect, quantum size effect and surface effect ratio owe very good physical and chemical properties. fe3o4 nanoparticles represent one of the most promising materials in medical applications in this work, coprecipitation route was used to synthesize of fe3o4 nanoparticles. the effect of alkali addition procedure on preparation of fe3o4 nanoparticles was studied. the products were characterized by x-ray diffraction (xrd), dynamic light scattering (dls) and transmission electron microscopy (tem) techniques. for the first procedure, ammonia was added to the salts mixture and for the second one the mixture of salts was added to the ammonia. results demonstrated that when ammonia is added et the mixture of salts, the smaller particles is obtained in comparison to the case of the addition of the salts to ammonia. all used techniques were in good agreement and that the obtained nanoparticles are about 12 nm for the first procedure and about 17 nm for the second one.
