Demand for plastics has grown rapidly in the last two decades, which has led to an increase in the accumulation of plastic waste in the environment. in this work, thermal pyrolysis of polypropylene plastic was performed in a stainless steel fixed bed reactor at 575°c. the plastics were decomposed and pyrolysis volatiles were directed to the condensers by a nitrogen carrier gas with a flow rate of 50 ml/min. the results showed that polypropylene plastic is well decomposed and converted to valuable and desirable products. the gc-ms results showed that the selectivity of aromatics, olefins, iso-paraffins and paraffins were 76.39%, 13.04%, 7.03%, and 3.54%, respectively. therefore, this process had a high efficiency in the production of aromatic components. also, the distribution of hydrocarbons in the obtained liquid product were within the c6-c15 range of carbon number. this study showed that thermal pyrolysis is a convenient way and environmentally friendly to convert plastic to valuable fuel, reducing result accumulation of plastic waste and environmental pollutions.
