چکیده
|
This study attempted to investigate the relationship between reading interests, mind-wandering, and reading comprehension of efl learners at upper intermediate learners. in order to conduct this study, 90 efl learners studying at three language institutes in karaj and tehran were selected. there were four main instruments in this study: quick oxford placement test (opt) as homogeneity test, mind-wandering questionnaire (mwq) by mrazek, phillips, franklin, broadway, and schooler (2013), reading interests scale (ris) by dokmen (1994), and reading comprehension test. after assuring their level of proficiency, the two questionnaires were given to the learners. at the end, the reading comprehension test was given to them. this study adhered a correlational design. analyzing the data revealed that there was a correlation between reading comprehension and reading interest, i.e. the reading comprehension scores increase as the reading interest of the learners increase. also, there was a negative correlation between reading comprehension and mind wandering, i.e. the reading comprehension scores increase as the mind wandering of the learners decreases.
