The Effect of Critical Discourse Analysis Awareness on Self-Regulation and Listening Comprehension of Iranian Efl Learners

This study intends to find out the effect of critical discourse analysis awareness on the improvement of iranian efl learners’ self-regulation, which is considered as a supporting factor of listening comprehension, and their listening comprehension in general. it also aims at investigating the probable differences between the two genders’ self-regulation as well as their listening comprehension. hence, it explores the listening performances of 24 available sophomore learners of english in one intact classroom in shiraz applied science university in order to examine the issue under investigation. firstly, two paired samples t-tests were run, based on the results of a self-regulation questionnaire which was given to the participants once before and once after the treatment, and two listening comprehension tests administered twice, at the beginning and at the end of the course, to reveal the effect of cda awareness on the learners’ self-regulation and listening comprehension improvement. then four independent samples t-tests were run to reveal the possible differences between males and females’ self-regulation and their listening comprehension at the beginning and at the end of the treatment. the findings of the study revealed that critical discourse analysis awareness significantly improved self-regulation and listening comprehension of the participants with similar effects on males and females.
