چکیده    The current paper aims to investigate the role of media and how it operates the alteration and manipulation of the individuals’ ways of thinking in the postmodern world based on don delillo’s white noise. in the introductory section, the research first provides a general theoretical background for its link with postmodernism and following this, a brief survey of delillo’s worldview (depicted in his novels) will be offered. moving on to the main argument of the paper, the representational issues such as what jean baudrillard, french philosopher deemed as “simulation” and “hyper-reality” will be identified in the patterns knitted through white noise. according to baudrillard, signs no longer correspond or mask their real-life referent, but they replace it in a world of “floating signifiers”. there has been an “implosion of image and reality” and this implosion leads “into the simulated non-space of hyper-reality”. a link between nietzsche and schopenhauer’s philosophical analysis of “free will” and antonio gramsci’s notion of “hegemony” will be drawn to show how the “free will” of white noise’s characters can be paralyzed and manipulated with their awareness held at bay. thus, in this paper, the reader is invited to explore the possibility of having a philosophical approach toward the reciprocal relationship between media and the public, alongside identifying the postmodern issue of “simulation” in delillo’s white noise
