the student-athlete career situation inventory: the factor structure and demographic differences

In this study, it was aimed to adapt the “student-athlete career situation inventory” (sacsi) into turkish, to examine its psychometric properties and to reveal the relationships between some demographic variables and career situation. the sample consisted of 285 college-age student-athletes from different universities in turkey. the sacsi (sandstedt et al., 2004) consists of 30 items with 5 factors. in statistical analyses, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyzes, pearson correlation analysis were performed, and cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficients were calculated. pearson correlation analysis and t-test were used to determine the relationships between the scores obtained from the inventory according to some independent variables. the findings demonstrated that this inventory yielded 15 items and 4 factors in the turkish version. the results of the correlation analysis carried out within the scope of the validity study showed that there were positive and significant correlations between the t-sacsi factors, and the reliability coefficient values of the inventory showed that it was a reliable measurement tool. other results of the study are that the national student-athletes had higher perceptions of career development barriers, and career development self-efficacy increases as age and sports age get older. the t-sacsi is a relatively short measurement tool that allows researchers to determine how the career development situation of athletes-students changed during the educational lives. the results obtained from the research provide initial support for the applicability of t-sacsi for the assessment of career situations of student-athletes studying at turkish universities.
