Investigation of Elite Basketball Players’ Tribune Effect Perception

The aim of this research is to investigate spectators’ effect perception and their reflection on performance of elite basketball players in turkey. 133 male and 73 female athletes with age average of 24.76 ± 5.47 participated in this research. in this study, a questionnaire which is specifically designed by the researcher in a five point likert scale type with the aim of collecting demographic information and measuring the tribune perception and which consists of 27 questions in total were used as a data collection method. in the analysis of the data obtained, statistical analysis package program were used and percentage and frequency analysis were used. in addition, as a result of the normality test, it was found that the data were notparametric, and the mean scores were analyzed by mann whitney u for paired comparisons and kruskall walis test for multiple comparisons. in order to understand the meaning of the group which was determined by this method in multiple comparisons, the reason of the difference obtained with the help of post hoc test was the result of the explanatory analysis. the cronbach’s alpha reliability analysis coefficient was found as 0.901. from the questions asked in the questionnaire, it was found out that about 60% of the participants stated that their performance will be affected positively if there is somebody in the tribune that they value. however, from the questions regarding the perception of tribune effect based on the fan size, it was found out that the answers vary based on gender. as a result, it was found out that the tribune perception in elite athletes vary based on gender and demographic characteristics and this issue needs more detailed analysis.
