بررسی و تحلیل رباعیات حکیم عمر خیام (با‌توجه‌به رویکرد رابرت گریوز در ترجمه رباعیات)

حکیم عمر خیام یکی از بزرگترین دانشمندان و ستاره شناسان تاریخ ایران (هجری قرن 6) است که رباعیات وی نیز آوازه جهانی دارد. این رباعیات حاوی ایده ها و اندیشه های فلسفی او است و ترجمه های بی شماری از آنها به زبانهای مختلف از جمله انگلیسی شده است. مشهورترین ترجمه از آنِ ادوارد فیتزجرالد و پس از آن ترجمه رابرت گریوز است. در ترجمه فیتزجرالد ، ترجمه آزاد و رگه هایی از رویکرد فلسفی شکاکانه و نهیلیستی را درک می کنیم. اما در نسخه گریوز ، ترجمه کلمه به کلمه مشهود است که سعی کرده ایده های فلسفی و عرفانی خیام را نیز به زبان مقصد ترجمه کند.در این مقاله، در مورد مفاهیم رباعیات ترجمه شدۀ گریوز بحث خواهد شد.

An Analysis of Graves translation of Rubayiat of Omar Khayyam

Hakim Omar Khayyam is one of the greatest scientists and astronomers in history of Iran (6th century hijri). Alongside being a prominent scientist, Khayyam has written some poetries in Quantrains’s form (Ruba,i) which contain his philosophical ideas and thoughts, (sometimes philosophical and mystic concepts, together). We have myriad of translations of these Rubayiat in many languages, including English. The most well-known translation is Edwards FitzGerald’s translation, followed by Robert Graves’s translation. It is noteworthy that in FitzGerald’s translation, we perceive “Free Translation” and also traces of skeptically and nihilistic philosophical approach.But in Graves’s version, word by word translation is evident. Besides his style of translation, his interpretation of Khayyam himself is of mystic and Sufi characteristics, which is reflected in his translation.In my opinion, both Graves (Graves worked on Rubayiat with his colleague, Omar Alishah) and FitzGerald are extravagant in their viewpoints. This article argues about Rubayiat concepts regarding Graves’s translation. Results suggest that Khayyam is not a Sufi, but in fact in his Rubayiat, mystic and philosophical concepts are presented.
