رمانس ترجمه و نقد؛ پیشینۀ نخستین ترجمه های رباعیات خیام به انگلیسی و نقد آن‌ها تا امروز

یکصد‌و‌شصت سال از جهانی شدن نام حکیم عمر خیام به واسطۀ ترجمۀ ادوارد فیتزجرالد می گذرد. پس‌از او، افراد دیگری به ترجمۀ رباعیات مبادرت ورزیدند. ترجمه های متعددی منتشر و نقد و بررسی-های زیادی پیرامون‌شان نوشته شد. عمدۀ آن ها حول ترجمۀ فیتزجرالد و یکی دو ترجمۀ صورت گرفته پس‌از وی بود. در این مقاله، ابتدا، کوتاه، به پیشینۀ ترجمۀ رباعیات قبل‌از فیتزجرالد در تاریخ ادبیات انگلیسی پرداخته می‌شود سپس به مهم ترین نقد و بررسی ها معرفی و بررسی می‌شود و دست آخر نتیجه گیری دربارۀ ترجمۀ وی صورت می گیرد.

Translation and critique romance; Background of the first translations of Khayyam's quatrains into English and their critique to date

One hundred and sixty years have passed, since Omar Khayyam’s name has become world-renowned through the translation of Edward FitzGerald. After him, other people translated Rubaíyát. Numerous translations were published and many criticisms were written about them. Most of them addressed FitzGerald's translation and a few of them addressed one or two translations after him, as well. Prominent scholars and researchers such as Charles Eliot Norton, Edward Heron-Allen, Dick Davis, Parvin Loloi, Esmail Zare-Behatash, and Masoud Farzad have criticized his translation of Rubaíyát in various fields having different approaches. As a result, several terms were applied to his work. The present essay seeks to make a correct judgment of FitzGerald's work by introducing and analyzing these criticisms and researches.
