چکیده

The idea of using hydrophobic coatings for stone conservation came from the point of view which offers avoiding the water penetration and the corrosion process which comes afterward instead of repeatedly costly reparations. the performance of 4 samples were studied for granite stone conservation. the coatings were based on two commercially available resins, silresren60 (a silicone resin solution in xylene) and tacryl mp-35 (a thermoplastic acrylic resin solution in xylene). resins were applied on multiple black granite stone substrates by a film applicator. the coatings’ hydrophobicity was evaluated by contact angle and water absorption measurement via capillarity method, and the color changes were also measured using a reflectance spectrophotometer. as a result, the color alteration of the coated substrate was negligible regarding to the bare granite samples. the resinous coating caused a better water repellency comparing with uncoated sample. moreover, an increasing trend of hydrophobicity was observed with adding more silicone to the acrylic resin.

|
