چکیده    The incorporation of halloysite nanotube (hnts) as fire retardant in epoxy resin is evaluated. using hnts in resins are common for slowing down the burning process, but using this substance alone would not give good results, in addition the time to ignition of this composites is lower than unreinforced resin. the goal of this research is to design the flame retardant on the basis of hnts which carry melamine phosphate to have a synergistic effect for slowing down the burning process alongside with increase char residue and smoke declining. good dispersing is an important challenge in this research for the hnts-melamine phosphate in epoxy matrix which is obtained by melamine formaldehyde in the form of fine particles acts as shell on the hnts-melamine phosphate hybrid. synthesis of in-situ this hybrid is on the basis of hydrogen bond between melamine and oh groups of hnts, in the following the interaction between melamine and phosphoric acid is electrostatic. the result showed that the modification of the hnts surface with melamine phosphate is well done and confirmed by sem, ftir, bet and tga. flame-retardancy tests showed that with increasing amount of phosphoric acid the char residue and limiting oxygen index value increased and the smoke quantity declined in comparison with neat matrix.

Abstract    The incorporation of Halloysite nanotube (HNTs) as fire retardant in epoxy resin is evaluated.
