Natural dyeing of textiles has now been a global soaring interest for avoiding environmental and health hazards associated with synthetic dyes chemicals; mainly, metal salt mordants. in this way, a great deal of research is underway worldwide to explore the possibility of using natural materials as eco-friendly sources for dyeing process. fig leaves are a rich source of numerous polyphenolic constituents that they can be considered as a probable source for textile dyeing. this study attempts to valorize fig leaves as a biocompatible and renewable product for wool dyeing in a metal salt-free dyeing process. the effects of the pre-mordanting with pomegranate peels as a biomordant and the main dyeing parameters (dyeing duration, temperature, and concentration) on the dyeing performances were investigated by measuring the color yield (k/s), colorimetric values, and the fastness properties of the dyed samples. results indicate that for the conditions used in our experiments, pomegranate peels biomordant improved the dye performance of the methanolic extract of fig leaves with acceptable fastness properties. the results obtained with selected plant materials encourage more and more investigation of novel biodegradable and agricultural products as biosource of dyes and mordants to replace hazardous chemicals mainly used in dyeing process

|
