چکیده    The main purpose of this study is the synthesis of hexa-methoxymethyl melamine (hmmm) resin and to investigate its compatibility and reactivity in water-based polyester acrylic resin (ps-ac). the synthesis of hmmm was performed during the methylation process using melamine and formaldehyde followed by alkylation step with methanol. the synthesized hmmm resin was characterized by ftir, nmr and gpc. it was found that a high solid resin with high monomer content and uniform functional groups was obtained, which contains methoxy and methylol groups. physical properties and appearance of the synthesized hmmm such as color, density, viscosity and solid content were almost similar to the commercial sample of this resin. then clear-coats with different formulations (40:60, 30:70, 20:80 wt.) of synthesized hmmm resin and a water-based polyester acrylic resin with p-toluene sulfonic acid (p-tsa) as catalyst were coated on glass and cured by baking at 150 ℃ for 1 h. results of ftir spectroscopy tests, coating quality control (including gel content, hardness and chemical resistance) and evaluation of physical-mechanical and thermal properties of clear-coats with dsc and dmta tests, confirmed suitable reactivity of synthesized hmmm resin sample and water-based ps-ac resin with the ratio of 30:70. gel content and pendulum hardness were 99.76% and 153 oscillation, respectively. pendulum hardness after 250 rubs of mek was measured and showed a decrease of 11.11%.
