Abstract    Lead compounds shows the brilliant colors, enhance the gloss in paint and also used as a dryer in architectural paints. Due to erosion of lead-containing wall paints, lead particles are released in the form of dust and chips in the room environment. Lead-based paints are a public concern for the health of the community, especially children. Research shows that high levels of lead in the blood cause mental retardation in children. More than 0.6 million children worldwide are mentally retarded each year due to lead poisoning. Due to the serious health risk, many countries enacted laws to ban the use of lead in paints, and other countries were required to adopt effective national standards. Due to the severe health risk, the international community, led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Health Organization (WHO), is actively supporting the global phase-out of lead-based paint by 2020 There are many difficulties in achieving this goal. Lead is still used in low- and middle-income countries. In many of these countries, the amount of lead consumed in paints is more than 90 to 600 ppm, which is higher than the global limit The amount of lead in many of these paints is higher than 10,000 ppm in the dry weight of the paint.
