چکیده    Poly (ethylene terephthalate) (polyester), which is the most widely used synthetic fiber in the world, has many superior characteristics such as high strength, excellent abrasion resistance, durability, good wash-and-wear properties and so on. however, polyester fabric is not comfortable to wear for its hydrophobic characteristic. so, modification is necessary to improve the wearability of polyester fiber. in this article, surface modification of poly (ethylene terephthalate) (polyester) fabric was carried out using oxygen plasma at low temperature. physical and chemical modification of polyester by plasma treatment resulted in a new surface which was more hydrophilic due to incorporation of oxygen containing polar functional groups. also, hydrolysis of polyester fabrics with sodium hydroxide has been studied with a view to imparting hydrophilicity and other comfort-related properties to polyester fabric. treated samples with plasma and sodium hydroxide, dyed with turmeric natural dye. in comparison to untreated, it was observed 12% and 18% increase in color depth upon dyeing the treated plasma polyester and alkaline hydrolysis polyester with turmeric natural dye, respectively. the improvement in color depth could be correlated as a consequence of the surface modification.
