چکیده    An operationally simple and green method for the one-pot synthesis of a wide range of alkyl nitrile derivatives under mild conditions, with excellent yields using hexyltriphenylphosphonium bromide (htpb) ionic liquid as a promoter and solvent, has been developed. this improved method furnishes in good yields alkyl nitrile derivatives starting from barbituric acid derivatives, various aromatic aldehydes, and sodium cyanide via the one-pot, three-component condensation reaction. the present green protocol is a clean, transition-metal-free, and environmentally friendly approach that offers many advantages including high to quantitative yields, low cost, ambient conditions, straightforward work-up, without using column chromatography and short reaction times.
