چکیده    Considering the extensive applications of inkjet printing in various industries and fields, printing quality control has been one of the challenges in this area. standard iso/iec 24790 is one of the standards that has been suggested to assess the printing quality in inkjet printing. however, this standard is only used for monochrome printed images. in this study, efforts have been made to enhance the suggested procedure in the standard for evaluating mottling, one of the most common defects in inkjet printing, so that the novel method would be appropriate for assessing mottling in colored printed images. to attain this goal, a test image, including fifteen colored squares in three different colors, with five different degrees of mottling defect and three squares without defects, was designed and printed on six different papers. then, the samples were scanned and converted to digital images. a setup was designed to perform the visual assessment. six different procedures, including the proposed ones in the standard and the new suggested methods, were used to evaluate mottling. the results obtained from the visual assessment were compared to the results achieved from the mentioned procedures, and their correlation coefficients were calculated. the results showed that assessing mottling in cielab color space –assess mottling in each coordinate, l*, a*, and b*, individually, and then report the average value as the mottling value of the sample- is the most suitable procedure to evaluate mottling in colored images and has the highest correlation with the human visual system.

Abstract    Considering the extensive applications of inkjet printing in various industries and fields, printing quality control has been one of the challenges in this area.
