راه طی شدۀ متز در معنای زندگی و نقدِ « نظریه بنیادین»

یکی از دغدغه‌های اصلی تدئوس متز، مبحثِ معنای زندگی می باشد. او با سیر در نظریه‌های پیشین درباره معنای زندگی، در پی وجوه اشتراکِ این نظریه هاست. وی با تاکید براینکه هیچ کدام از آنها کامل نیست درصدد پاسخ به این پرسش بر می آید که آیا می توان نظریه ای کامل ارائه داد که دربردارنده تمام نظریاتِ پیشین باشد و در عین حال از کاستی‌های آنها مصون باشد؟ از این رو در راستای نیل به این هدف به شناخت، واکاوای و انتقاد بر نظریات پیشین پرداخته و سپس به جستجوی اینکه ویژگی‌های یک نظریه کامل چیست؟ می پردازد. متز نظریۀ خود را «نظریه بنیادی» می نامد و آن را کامل ترین نظریه تاکنون، درباره معنای زندگی می داند. وی برای رسیدن به نظریه نهایی خود سه تقریر ارائه می دهد که هر تقریر به ترتیب کامل و کامل تر می شود. نگارندگان در این مقاله، پس از بررسی آراء متز، به نقد پاره ای از اندیشه‌های او می پردازند. آنچه امتیازِ ویژۀ نظریه متز می باشد، توصیفِ فراگیر آن از موضوعات معنابخش به عنوان شرایط بنیادین وجود بشری است. اگر با «رویکرد نقادانه» به نظریۀ متز بنگریم آراء او قابل نقد می باشد لکن با اینهمه چنانکه رویکرد همدلانه به اندیشه های متز داشته باشیم پژوهش ها و تلاش‌های فکری او را برای ارتقاءِ شرایطِ بنیادین زندگی، موثر و سازنده دانسته و همچون او، جست و جوی معناداری را، معنابخش به زندگی می دانیم.

one of theddeos metz’s main concerns is the meaning in life. he peruses and investigates previous theories about the meaning of life to seek out the commonalities of them. emphasizing that none of them are perfect and complete, he attempts to answer the question of whether it is possible to present a perfect theory that contains all the previous theories and at the same time is free from their shortcomings. therefore, in order to achieve this purpose, he investigates, analyzes and criticizes the previous theories and then seeks out what are the characteristics of a complete theory?. metz calls his theory fundamentality theory and considers it the most perfect theory to date on the meaning of life. in order to reach his final theory, he presents three statements, each of which becomes complete and more complete, respectively. the authors of this article, after investigating metz’s views, critique some of his ideas.what is the special advantage of metz’s theory is its comprehensive description of meaningful issues as the fundamental conditions of human existence. if we look at metz’s theory with a critical approach, his opinions can be criticized, but even so, if we have an empathetic approach to metz’s thoughts, his researches and intellectual efforts are considered effective and productive for improving the basic conditions of life, and like him, we consider the search for meaning to give meaning to life.
