Small and medium enterprises (smes) play a very important role in economic growth, technology development and, consequently, entrepreneurship. the development of these companies requires the establishment of necessary infrastructure to reduce the risks facing them during start-up phase. one of the most important infrastructures are the science and technology parks. for those entrepreneurs and smes with commercializable key ideas, these parks provide essential information and advice, as well as proper equipment and services for growth and development for a couple of years, preparing them for effective and independent presence in today’s competitive market. regarding the vital role of science and technology parks in industrial development, this article aims to examine the effects and results of launching these parks. to do so, the experience of various countries in setting up science and technology parks was studied. afterwards, by examining the status of incubators and science and technology parks in iran, the challenges facing these institutions were examined. finally, according to investigations, a model was proposed for launching science and technology park of shahid beheshti university (sbu)
