the god-question(s) and the ontological dimensions of being

The god-question is never neutral: it is always dependent on the semantic, ontological and epistemological framework from which it is formulated. despite its incomparable importance, the assumptions it involves are too-often taken for granted in a dogmatic and simplistic way. thus, the god-question is frequently asked in binary terms that also demand a binary answer, such as: does god exist or not? against these common approaches, i aim at overcoming the binary opposition between traditional theism and atheism through a rigorous analysis of the god-question and the hidden semantic, ontological and epistemological assumptions it rests on. moving away from substance metaphysics, i defend the thesis of an ontic atheism as the condition of possibility of a non-hypostasizing conception of the divinity. through this analysis, i hold the hypothesis that both traditional atheistic and ontotheological worldviews alike have their grain of truth, although often ignored or distorted by the other party. by means of this approach, i aim at starting a fruitful dialogue between divergent approaches and cultural traditions.
