چکیده

Knowledge toward the thematic structures of l1 and l2 in translation is fundamentalsince the thematic structures represent the source text (st)’s implied meanings, purposes, and functions. the present study is thus an attempt to investigate thetranslation of marked thematic structures in the selected corpus and to find out whetherthe strategies employed by the translator for transmitting these marked items intopersian have preserved the st communicative function. to this end, the book “i ammalala: the story of the girl who stood up for education and was shot by thetaliban” written by yousafzai and lamb (2013) and translated by choupani (2014)was taken under study. the aforementioned corpus was selected reasonably andpurposefully due to the abundant use of the marked thematic structures. therefore, thetaxonomy of marked themes and the strategies suggested by baker (2011) is applied forthe analysis of the collected data. the findings revealed that the translator wassuccessful in conveying the intended meaning and function of the st’s markedstructures, while she had mostly abandoned the st’s marked structures throughtranslation. although missing in the baker’s taxonomy, another category was suggestedand added for the analysis of prepositional phrases. it was also discovered that thementioned strategies were not highly applicable for conveying the marked structures inthe selected corpus. the study implies that the translators’ increasing awareness towardthe significance of such special structures leads to better conveyance of them in tt.
