intersemiotic analysis of persian dubbing of shawshankredemption based on manipulation school

As one of the most popular types of intersemiotic translation,adaptation is as old as the cinema. many of the world’s most successful filmshave been adapted from fiction, and most of them have been dubbed in iran.based on manipulation school, this study aimed to analyze the changes madein the persian dubbing of shawshank redemption (1994), a film directed byfrank darabont and adapted from a novella by stephen king, rita hayworthand shawshank redemption (1982). to meet this purpose, the dubbed versionof the film as the target text was compared with the novella as its originalsource and the changes were analyzed intersemiotically based onmanipulation strategies suggested by ducate (2007). the results indicatedthat there has been all manipulation strategies in the film but the mostly usedstrategy in the dubbed version was deletion. in addition, cultural subjects(including moral issues) and religious content are among the mostmanipulated subjects.
