   The Effect of Socio-Economic Status on Motivation in Learning English As A Foreign Language: A Study in Iran

چکیده    Many factors are affecting the learners' affective factors such as motivation that indirectly influences the learning of english as a second or foreign language. most of the research in this field has investigated the high and low economical classes without paying attention to the middle class. the present study investigates the relationship between three different socio-economic statuses and learners’ motivation in learning english. two quantitative questionnaires have been used in the present study that examines the learners’ motivation and their socio-economic status. due to the coronavirus pandemic, the questionnaire was conducted virtually. nearly 180 high school learners from six different schools in three different districts have filled the research questionnaire. the data analyses were done using spss by descriptive statistics, anova, and simple linear regression. results indicate that there is a significant relationship between socio-economic status and learners' motivation which reflects that the high socio-economic status has a positive effect on language learning motivation.
