In this research, the process of coal gasification inside the moving-bed reactor using illinois no 6 coal as feed is simulated by the formulation of a heat transfer equation for both gas and solid phases and the addition of the radiation mechanismthe system of differential equations for the mass and energy balances is solved using runge-kutta method this simulation is used to predict temperature and concentration profiles the simulation results were compared with experimental data relevant to westfield plant in scotland successfully also the effect of steam to oxygen molar ratio (sor) on product gas composition and solid conversion was investigated carbon conversion increased with decreasing of sor but a dry ash gasifier would have to be larger than sor equal to 7 to operate below the ash fusion temperature dry ash gasifier in westfield plant is in operation at sor equal to 96 therefore, the reactor capacity or carbon to oxygen molar ratio (cor) can be increased by up to 15% by reducing sor from 96 to 75 maintaining the efficiency of carbon conversion and state of ash
