replacing the conventional sulfur recovery unit in refineries by the methanol thiolation unit: a technical and economic evaluation

A new process solution for converting sour off gas to high value methanethiol product is proposed in this paper# the proposed process consists an amine unit together with a methanol thiolation unit# methanol thiolation process is simulated and the main equipments are sized# the capital cost is estimated and the operating cost is calculated# the financial results are compared with a conventional process consisting an amine and sulfur recovery unit (sru)# the results show a capital cost reduction of 70% and operating cost increase of 47% but an internal rate of return equal to 86#2% for proposed process# the dynamic pay back period is 1#1 years#
