The type of support material has an important influence on the performance of solid catalysts in oxidative desulfurization (ods) of fuels where the reaction media includes both organic and inorganic liquid phases# in this work, two mesopourous supports of γ-al2o3 and sio2 (silica gel) were used for molybdenum (mo) oxide catalyst in deep ods of an industrial diesel fuel from tehran oil refinery# by an experimentation, acetonitrile was found to have the best performance compared to methanol and aceton as the extractive solvent in this process# the characterization of the catalysts were assessed by xrd, bet and sem analysis# the catalyst structure was studied at different mo contents# the efficiency of 89#8% was achieved for sulfur removal of industrial diesel using 10wt#% mo on γ-al2o3 catalyst (at 45°c, o/s molar ratio of 12, mcatalyst/voil of 0#2 g/ml, and reaction duration of 90 min)# while 100% sulfur removal was obtained using 5wt#% mo on sio2 catalyst (at 45°c, reaction time of 90 min, o/s molar ratio of 8 and mcatalyst/voil of 0#1 g/ml)# the study on the catalysts performance revealed a more activity of mo on silica gel compared to γ-al2o3 as the support# furthermore, mo on silica gel had an improved recycability# a considerable high surface area and more porosity of silica gel for mo impregnation and easier removing the reaction products, provided a superior catalytic performance in this ods system#
