Modification of activated carbon (ac) with basic nitrogen surface groups is a promising method for obtaining an efficient carbon dioxide (co2) adsorbent# in order to ascertain if the presence of oxygen functionalities before ammonia treatment could improve in some way the co2 capture performance, two different approaches were considered: ammonia treatment without preliminary oxidation and ammoxidation of oxidized samples# the characterization of modified samples was performed by several analyses# the result indicated that oxidation followed by high-temperature ammonia treatment could introduce different nitrogen functionalities to the carbon surface, reaching maximum uptake of up to 30#04 (mg co2/g adsorbent) at 105 °c#
