Given the importance of future of elt, the present study sought to explore iranian efl teachers’ familiarity with the global emerging trends shaping future of elt. it also examined the relationships between teachers’ familiarity with the elt trends, efl teachers’ gender, and their level of experience. a questionnaire including 30 trends was administered to a convenient sample of 63 iranian efl teachers. teachers’ attitude toward the emerging trends was also explored through semi-structured interviews conducted with 7 efl teachers. quantitative data were analyzed using correlation and multiple regression. qualitative data were analyzed using the thematic analysis technique. based on the themes extracted, the data were coded and categorized. the finding indicated that teachers had low familiarity with most of the trends. based on the results, both female and novice teachers were of the lower familiarity with trends than males and experienced. moreover, there was no statistically significant relationship between the teachers’ familiarity with trends and their gender and level of experience. based on the results of the qualitative data, none of the participants claimed that there is a relationship between familiarity with elt trends, age, and their level of experience. the findings have implications for teacher education and professional developments
