bearing capacity of strip foundation in c - ø soil using imaginary retaining wall approach

Strip foundation, as a very applicable geotechnical structure constructed below buildings and other structures, should be analyzed carefully, and different methods can be applied to estimate its bearing capacity approximately. over the years, the bearing capacity of strip foundation has already been evaluated by many researchers. their analyses are based on empirical formulas, numerical methods and many others. in this paper, by using theories of active and passive earth pressure in retaining walls, the bearing capacity of strip foundation is calculated and its method is provided as a new one. an imaginary retaining wall is assumed to be under the foundation to calculate the bearing capacity of strip foundation in c-ø soils; moreover, the reliability of the method is verified with the methods in literature.
