چکیده

Vascular endothelial growth factor a (vegfa) plays a crucial role in angiogenesis, inflammation, and tissue repair. genetic variations in the vegfa gene, particularly the c.-634g>c (rs2010963) polymorphism, may influence susceptibility to gastric mucosal damage, inflammation, and ulcer formation. however, data on this association in central asian populations remain limited. this study aimed to evaluate the relationship between the vegfa c.-634g>c polymorphism and the development of gastric inflammatory and ulcerative lesions in the uzbek population. a total of 150 participants were included in the study, comprising 100 patients with gastric inflammatory and ulcerative lesions and 50 healthy controls. dna was extracted from peripheral blood samples, and genotyping of the vegfa c.-634g>c polymorphism was performed using polymerase chain reaction–restriction fragment length polymorphism (pcr-rflp) analysis. statistical evaluation included genotype and allele frequency comparisons, odds ratios (or), and 95% confidence intervals (ci). the c allele frequency was significantly higher in patients with gastric lesions compared to the control group (p < 0.05). individuals carrying the cc genotype had an increased risk of developing gastric ulcerative lesions (or = 1.9; 95% ci: 1.1–3.4). furthermore, a positive association was observed between the cc genotype and disease severity. the vegfa c.-634g>c polymorphism is associated with an increased risk of gastric inflammatory and ulcerative lesions in the uzbek population. these findings suggest that vegfa gene variation may serve as a potential genetic marker for susceptibility to gastric mucosal damage.
