ten years survival outcome of breast cancer patients among south indian population: a retrospective cohort study

In india, breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed malignancy in women; however, there is a lack of research on long-term survival rates. long-term oncological outcomes in curable breast cancer patients were examined in this study. this study presents a retrospective cohort analysis of 250 patients with various stages of breast cancer who received curative primary treatment at a cancer facility in south india between 2013 and 2023.  final analysis included 250 breast cancer patients, with a median age of 51 years (range: 21 to 69 years). 84.8% of patients presented with early breast cancer disease (ebc), 15.2% exhibited locally advanced breast cancer disease (labc), and 28% had newly developed metastatic disease which requires surgical treatment. 53.6% of patients presented with hormone-sensitive tumors, 28% exhibited overexpression of the human epidermal growth factor-2 receptor (her-2), and 55% were diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer tumors (tnbc).  after initial cancer treatment, the cohort had overall survival (os) rates of 95% at 5 years and 50% at 10-years. ebc and labc were associated with extended survival in multivariate analysis. early-stage disease and subsequent primary cancer treatment has better 10-year survival rates.
