Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (nafld), which progresses through the stages of simple steatosis, cirrhosis, fibrosis, steatohepatitis, and end-stage liver disease, characterised by accumulation of lipids in the liver. the buildup of excess triglycerides in the liver has a major impact on the onset and progression of nafld. the development and course of nafld are significantly influenced by the hepatic accumulation of excess triglycerides. assessing the preventive effects of evolvulus nummularius linn (meen) methanolic leaf extract against nafld brought on by a high-fat diet is the aim of this study. following the completion of acute and sub-acute toxicological studies, doses up to 2000mg/kg were found to be safe as they did not produce any toxic effects. for 10 weeks, wistar albino rats were given a high-fat diet to cause fatty liver. to test meenβs ability to prevent nafld, the rats were given low doses (250 mg/kg) and high doses (500 mg/kg). various parameters including hematological, antioxidant, serum biomarkers, and histopathology were assessed. hdl rise while liver weight, blood triglycerides, tc, ldl and vldl, and antioxidants like mda and gpx1 decreased as a result of taking meen supplements. the increased expression of serum biomarkers like srebp1c, pparΞ³, and tnf-Ξ± were lowered by the administration of meen. meen effectively inhibited lipid buildup and subsequent development of steatosis, as further evidenced by histological examination of the liver. based on these findings, meen may be a viable treatment option for nafld caused by a diet heavy in fat.
